In ancient China, there were many people engaged in the training process of self-tempering to improve oneself. These exercises begin with simple body movement such as the fingers come together, the thumbs stretch, toes lift-up and toes grip the ground progress to larger body movements such as stretching the four limbs, turning the body to the left and right and jumping up and down bodily movements, profound rhythmic breathing and beautiful mental visualization. As a result, people realized that these exercises can regulate and improve the condition of qi inside the body and leading up to better health. This is the basic objective, principle and formulation of the art of daoyin (manipulating and leading) exercise.
Based on the techniques, objectives and methods, daoyin exercise has many names. Contemporary Chinese call it qigong exercise. Qigong is the "cream of the crop" of the heritage of traditional Chinese culture. It has a long history and has many benefits. It is so valuable that there are many people interested and practice this modality.
