For its gracefulness in motion, Tai Chi Sword is one of the most
popular weapons in the
Tai Chi Chuan System. It follows the same principles, and
concepts as the Tai Chi Chuan
solo form. Although it is similar in many ways, there are
obvious differences between
Tai Chi Sword and the Tai Chi Chuan solo form. People often
describe the sword's
techniques and characteristics as "flying phoenix" or "swimming
dragon", "sword and
body as a unity", and say that "the sword is based on nimbleness
and flexibility, not
on power."
The 22 Techniques Tai Chi Sword form has been developed from the
traditional Yang
Style Tai Chi Sword. It contains all the features of the
traditional tai chi sword set, as
well as some new information to demonstrate the Yang Style Tai
Chi Sword's unique
features; as such it fulfills the needs of practitioners of
different levels, different
backgrounds, and different age groups.
The 22 Techniques Tai Chi Sword set is divided into four
sections. The first section
emphasizes softness, elasticity, coordination, and balance. The
second section
emphasizes dynamic stepping, coordination and control. The third
section emphasizes
the unique features of hard and soft movements, stationary and
dynamic stepping, and
the principle of the body following the mind's intent. The
fourth section emphasizes
balance, stability, and continuity.
